Beginner Indoor Triathlon Program - 2012 (8 Week Program)

Who/What is the program designed for?

The program has been developed by Terrier Tri’s coaches with the specific needs of the beginner athlete in mind. Our coaches draw from a vast experience of training and racing and are This training program is specifically designed for the beginner triathlete. If you have never done a triathlon and just decided that you want to challenge yourself or always wanted to do one but didn’t know how, this program is for you.

How does the program work?

Training will start on January 17th. Participants will receive weekly training plans which will include 3 coached sessions as well as workouts to be done on your own or with other fellow athletes.
At the end of the program, participants will compete in the TTRI indoor sprint triathlon race at West End Fitness on March 10th at 1pm. Participants will

• swim 750 yards
• bike 9 miles and
• run 3 miles

The Sessions

Athletes will meet weekly on the following days with additional training days throughout the program:
• Tuesday: Group Bike/Brick, 6:30 – 8:00am, West End Fitness (63rd &West End) Please note that bike sessions will be held indoors on a stationary bike, or resistance trainer if participant owns a bike.
• Thursday: Group Run, 6:30 - 7:30am, Central Park, Bandshell
• Saturday: Group Swim, 7:00 - 8:00am , West End Fitness

There will be an orientation meeting prior to the training start- exact date to be announced. There will also be social and educational meetings throughout the program. Dates to be announced at the beginning of the program.

The Coaches

Spencer Casey – Former Elite runner with over 25 years of running experience and 12 years of coaching experience. Head coach for NYAC women’s Elite team with multiple Olympic Trials qualifiers. PR’s: Marathon - 2:23, 1/2 Marathon - 1:06, 5k - 14:38. Elite Duathlete & Cat 3 cyclist.

Kevin Horty- Kevin is the head coach of the New York Harriers men’s and women’s competitive running teams, and has nearly 20 years of competitive running experience. He has a half marathon PR of 1:14 and a full marathon best of 2:41

Christine Neumeier – A certified USA Cycling Level 2 Coach and Spinning instructor with 12 years of cycling experience. Christine has competed in numerous cycling and triathlon races from the sprint to Half Ironman distance. Christine sports an amazing Half Ironman time of 5:40 after several knee surgeries and never thinking she could run again!

Robert Pennino - A USA Triathlon Certified Coach with 12 years of racing and 8 years of coaching experience. USAT age group All American, competed at Clearwater 70.3 World Championships and has many age group wins and podium finishes. 2:06 Olympic PR and 4:35 Half PR. Robert has completed 6 Ironman’s.

Julia Mavrodin – A USAT age group All American and 2x Ironman World Championship Qualifier. A four time NCAA qualifier while at Emory University and two time Academic All American IM'er and Breastroker. Member of the winning NCAA National Team title in 2005. Julia ran the Emory University swim lesson program for three years, which served the local Atlanta community. Julia has taught all levels of swimmers from infants to grown adults. Julia is currently considered on of the top age groupers in the country and holds a 4:42 Half Ironman and a 10:50 Ironman time at the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
