Robert Pennino, founder of Terrier Tri, a New York City coaching company and triathlon team, to coach the hosts of Today Show to complete their first triathlon in September.

Tune in to NBC's Today Show during the 10 o'clock hour on Wednesday August 19th to watch the kickoff of the first ever triathlon training program for the everyday woman! Partnering with Self magazine, Robert Pennino will coach Natalie Morales and Hoda Kotb to learn the basics of one of America's fastest growing sports, triathlon.

In the September issue of Self Magazine, readers can follow an easy one-month program and learn how to cross train and achieve their best body fitness goals. As part of the magazine's successful Reach Your Goals program, viewers and readers can go online at SELF.com, sign up and get customized workouts, training logs, eating plans and useful fitness tips. “Self is thrilled to be partnering with Terrier Tri and the Today Show to bring the growing sport of triathlon to the general public,” says Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danziger. “It’s always a pleasure to combine my personal passion for the sport of triathlon with SELF’s mission to empower women to achieve their all around best, including their fitness and wellbeing goals.”

Robert Pennino developed this one-month triathlon training program exclusively for Self's 6.1 million readers, and is now bringing his expertise as a triathlon training coach and motivational instructor to the millions of Today Show viewers who would otherwise never consider taking on the challenge of triathlon.

"Athletes of all abilities and ages, from total beginners who have never swum a lap, to college stars looking to find a new challenge and reconnect with their competitive spirit, have joined Terrier Tri and been successfully coached to reach their goals," Pennino said.

Members of Terrier Tri regularly take podium positions at races around the country, qualify for World Championships at every distance, and compete in the highest levels of the sport. But there are also dozens of newcomers each year who join and do their first race under the auspices of Pennino and his coaching staff, which includes specialists in cycling, swimming and running. "I look forward to broadening the message that triathlon is a great way to have fun and get fit to the American TV viewing public, and seeing the sport explode in popularity even beyond its current status." in the world of triathlon, doing a sprint is often the first step to getting hooked on the training, the body benefits and the joys of pushing yourself to new levels, and Pennino is the perfect representative of this trend, since his team has grown exponentially since he founded it 5 years ago. Tune in tomorrow to watch the kick off segment and check back regularly over the next month to follow Hoda & Natalie’s training culminating with the duo crossing the finish line with huge smiles on their faces!

TERRIER TRI’S ROBERT PENNINO TEAMS WITH SELF MAGAZINE TO SUCCESSFULLY COACH TODAY SHOW HOSTS TO COMPLETE THEIR FIRST TRIATHLON, AS 20 MILLION VIEWERS WATCH ON NATIONAL TV

The War At the Shore Sprint Triathlon in Long Branch New Jersey was the scene of the first-ever triathlon to be completed by Today Show hosts Natalie Morales and Hoda Kotb, coached by founder and CEO of Terrier Tri, Robert Pennino. The two hosts completed a four week program written exclusively by Pennino for SELF magazine’s September issue and published in the magazine and at self.com, and had a great time doing it. The program, which follows a simple and do-able plan of alternating between swimming, biking and running, was also followed at home by viewers and on-line by magazine readers and internet users, bringing the sport of triathlon to millions of people who would ordinarily not think of participating in the sport of triathlon.

“Now I see why you do this! It’s so much fun!” Kotb exclaimed as she passed the bike transition and began her three mile run along the sunny boardwalk. The host smiled her way through the event, and had high fives and cheers from hundreds of fans every step of the way. Natalie Morales took her training more seriously and was determined to put in a medal-worhty time. She did that, even with a camera strapped to her bike and a flip video camera onhand during her blistering run of sub-seven minute miles. A veteran runner and marathoner, Morales says “I’m hooked!” and signed up for another race shortly after completing this one.

Both hosts and the entire production team at the Today Show became enamored with “Coach Rob,” as they nicknamed Coach Pennino and he has been a regular topic of their morning “chat” minutes at the top of the fourth hour of the show. Appearing on air a total of four times, once for the kick off of the program, two updates on the training progress, and the finale after the event, Pennino proved himself the equal of morning live television hosts on the national forum. He was able to quip along with the entertaining and unpredictable Kathie Lee Gifford, ham it up during the color segments at Coney Island (where the producers turned an open water swim into a carnival segment) and then again on the couch.

If you missed it. You can view all four broadcast below.
