Terrier Tri Softball
June 28th Game Review
Terrier Tri vs. Randys
Decent work today, Terrier Tri, as we split with first-place Randy's, dropping game 1, 5-2, and bouncing back to take game 2, 7-1. Shaky bunt D undid some solid pitching by Crystal, going up against Rock, one of the top pitchers in the league -- we played OK, but there's not much margin for error there. Beth led the way in game 2, carrying a 1-hit shutout into the 7th. With some big hits and solid D behind her, we salvaged the split.
By the numbers
847 - combined feet of Matt's two game 2 moonshots
2 - hits allowed by Beth in shutting Randy's down 7-1 in game 2
10 - times we struck out today, compared to 21 the last time vs Randy's
6 - hits for us in each game
5 - singles in game 1, plus a double by Matt
1 - singles in game 2, plus 2 HRs by Matt, 1 each by Jeff and Dale, and a Will Clark triple
4 - our batters hit by pitch in game 2
6 - halfhearted steps their RF took after the ball when Jeff lined his game 2 HR
1 - errors we committed in game 2
3 - stolen bases today against Randy's revolving door of catchers
3 - unearned runs in game 1, as we made 3 errors and misplayed 3 bunts (Crystal deserved better)
19 - number worn by Tony Gwynn, who Gil again channeled in going 2-2 with 2 runs in game 1
110 - feet Tristan ran to make an over-the-shoulder grab in the deep left-center infield in game 2
7 - popups caught by Josh at 2B, and 0 groundballs (he registered all 3 putouts in game 2's 5th inning)
12 - Advils Gil has taken to calm the pain in his throwing shoulder and leg (from colliding with Will on a popped-up bunt)
0 - shockingly, drunken taunts from the Randy's bench

Terrier Tri vs Los Cocos
Another strong showing today as Terrier Tri thumped Los Cocos by scores of 8-1 and 8-4. We improve to 15-7 and maintain our hold on second place. (Summertime is at 13-7, and the Gents entered today at 11-6, with 2 games today vs Randy's, as well as a suspended game to complete.)
Solid all-around today -- pitching, D, clutch hitting. Beth and Crystal were dominant on the mound, as Beth tossed a 4-hitter (0 earned runs, 0 BB) in game 1, Crystal a 7-hitter (2 ER, 1 BB) in game 2. D was strong, with only 1 error in game 1 and 3 in game 2 (2 of which were on the same play) -- of the 4, only 1 was on a batted ball.
Kudos to:
- Gil at 2B, fielding the ball behind the bag and making a sick play, making like Rey Ordonez with the pop-up slide and throw to first
- Matt continues his crazy season with a BOMB into the trees beyond the LF dugout, as well as two doubles and 4 RBI
- Cohan, welcome back! DH extraordinaire returns and mashes a 2-run HR in game 1
- Rich Kennedy, former teammate and supersub, smokes a 2-run HR and an RBI double in his first 2 ABs
- JB with 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI on the day, as well as a warning-track fly out to the LF dugout (WEIGHT ROOM)
- Feil, on-base machine! 3 walks in game 1, and 2 hits, run, RBI and a key sac bunt in game 2
- Tristan with a big game 2: 2 hits, 2 runs and a huge steal and insurance run in the top of the 7th. Plus a sweet shoestring catch in game 1
- Defensive communication was outstanding -- Beth coaxed 13 flyouts and Crystal 9, and we did a great job talking to each other. OF defense was stellar.
- Baserunning: way to be aggressive! 4 steals in game 2, plus a number of extra bases all day on wild pitches and passed balls
- Big rallies: our 16 runs included a 4-run inning and 3 3-run innings, one of which started with 2 outs and no one on
July 19th Game Review
Terrier Tri vs. TSG
Nice work today, Terrier Tri. After another solid performance, we've won 5 straight and 11 of 12! What can I say -- outstanding pitching, strong D, and some key hits yet again, as we swept TSG 10-0 (by slaughter rule) and 3-0.
Pitching, pitching, pitching. In game 1, Beth threw a 1-hit shutout over 5 innings, striking out 4. She was overpowering, inducing 7 flyouts and 3 grounders, and even picked up an assist on the last out of the game, nailing a runner attempting to steal home. In game 2, Jack spun a 3-hit shutout, keeping them off-balance as he struck out one (their befuddled 3-hitter) and induced 13 flyouts. Jack walked just one batter, and Beth none -- outstanding control all day.
Yes, that's 12 combined innings pitched, 4 hits, zero runs, 1 walk, 5 Ks. And most importantly, 2 Ws. Awesome.
DE-FENSE! We made only two errors on the day -- fine work. GREAT outfield defense -- Tristan showing off his range several times in left, Cook with a sweet diving grab in short left-center, and JB with a stellar diving catch in foul ground. In the infield, supersub Jeff Trezza made maybe the two best plays of the day in the second inning of game 2, first nailing a runner on a high chopper at deep third, then charging a bunt and getting the runner by a half-step.
Big hits of the day belonged to:
- Cook, 2 walks and 2 runs in game 1
- Tristan, 2-2 with 2 runs in game 1
- Matt (surprise), with a 3-run HR in the top of the first, staking us to a 3-0 lead in game 1 (2-2, 3R, 4RBi in game 1)
- Will, with a 2-run HR in game 1 (and a game 2 single and baserunning hustle, leading to a key insurance run)
- Mike Clark, big 2-run 2B in game 1
- JB with an absolute BOMB off the tree in left in game 1, which should have been a 2-run HR, but the ump blew the call and limited him to an RBI 2B
- Jeff's 2-run HR in game 2, putting us on the board and making all the difference (plus 3-3, 2B, R, RBI in game 1)
- Feil, continuing his on-base production, going 2-3 with a walk in game 2 (and deftly fielding the game's final out)
